Off-Hill Council/Hillside House

The Joel Reed Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established for Deserving Commuting Students
Dedicated 1992

Joel Reed was an integral member of the Tufts community. He excelled in academics as a double major in history and computer science. Equally impressive and active outside of the classroom, Joel served as President of The Off-Hill Council and Hillside House. During the last semester of his senior year, Joel was diagnosed with leukemia. He passed away one month later. Joel's spirit and enthusiasm were an inspiration to all who knew him. This scholarship fund for commuting students has been established in his name. The fund will establish the academic diligence and community service that Joel exemplified. All of the many donors sincerely intend that by doing so, the fund will reflect a small part of the joy, support and dedication that Joel Reed brought to others during his lifetime.

The market value is the income that the fund has earned since inception, and that income is added to the principal of the fund, so that the fund remains ahead of inflation, and is still able to distribute income to a student.

The financial aid office receives nonimations each spring, to award a student the next academic year.

Donations can still be made to the fund, in an effort to boost the balance, so that more money can be awarded to the student. Any donations to that fund go directly to the fund - they do not go to the general operating budget of Tufts University.
